Sussex is a great place to visit for the weekend and what better way than by enjoying one of the many Bonfire Nights on show. There are so many events to choose from across Sussex and it is always a fun night where family and friends can get together to watch and enjoy the fireworks. Here are five of our favorite Bonfire Nights we’re excited for this weekend.
Lindfield Bonfire Night – 5th November from 6.30pm
This is one of the biggest in the area and is a fantastic occasion put on by the wonderful members of the Lindfield Bonfire Society. Dating back to 1894 when the Lindfield Bonfire Society was formed, organised displays are held every 5th November in the village. The festivities start with the children’s fancy dress competition which really is great fun. After the fancy dress, the procession is formed and makes its way through the village, starting at Pondcroft and meandering down the High Street to finish at the Common where the bonfire is lit and the fireworks begin.
This event is not ticketed. Donations to Lindfield Bonfire Society are greatly appreciated.
Lewes Bonfire Night – 5th November
The biggest celebrated Fifth November Event in the world and certainly one that needs to be experienced. There are in fact 7 separate Lewes Bonfire Societies each with their own processions, traditions, costumes, fire sites and fireworks. The grand procession, which starts around 9pm is formed by 5 other processions joining and marching through Lewes Town and can take up to an hour to pass. The event goes on in to the night and some pubs will be ticket only so to avoid disappointment, buy your tickets beforehand.
Note that all Lewes Bonfire Society fire sites are ticket only events. Roads into Lewes will be closed from 2pm.
Cuckfield Bonfire Night – 5th November from 5.30pm
This is one of Cuckfield’s biggest fundraising events of the year with all funds raised, after costs, going back in to young education locally. The event is being held in the beautiful grounds of Cuckfield Park and the children of Holy Trinity Primary come together to make ‘guys’ for the event. The bonfire is lit at 6.45pm and there will be fireworks to music from 7.30pm. There is a host of sweet and savoury food stalls selling everything from burgers, hot dogs and pizza to popcorn, sweets and doughnuts. Hot and cold refreshments will also be available, however this is a strict no-alcohol on site event.
With the gates opening at 5.30pm and hosting upwards of 6,000 people, the marshals and additional volunteers do a fantastic job of keeping this event a success year after year and appreciate your support.
Tickets available in advance as well as on the gate.
Ardingly Bonfire Night – 4th November from 6pm
Held at the beautiful Ardingly College, this is another wonderful event for all the family. The event starts at 6pm with the fireworks at 7.30pm. With up to 17 different local street food companies as well as drinks vans, there will be something for everyone.
Tickets sold online only.
Horsham Bonfire Night – 5th November from 5pm
Bigger and better than ever, this is another great event and this year it’s taking place at Horsham Rugby Club. With gates opening at 5pm the spectacular musical firework display is not to be missed. There are fairground rides, food stalls and bars and with under 5’s going free, this is sure to be a fun evening for all the family.
Tickets available in advance, however prices may be different on the day.
There are many volunteers that give up their precious time to put on these events and a lot rely on donations to keep going, so where possible give generously and thank them for their efforts. As always, stay safe while watching this 5th November’s firework display and have fun.
